More Military Might
The Venezuelan government announced it will strengthen its military power to fend off attacks
The Venezuelan government announced it would double its military fleet to prevent attacks coming from Colombian territory, following the announcement of the installation of four U.S. bases in that country. Chancellor Nicolas Maduro first qualified this measure as an agressive attitude, and afterwards President Hugo Chavez announced he would bring new tanks in from Russia to strengthen the Armed Forces. He announced that he would review diplomatic and trade relations with Venezuela's neighbor, Colombia, and that his country would look to "real friends" from which to buy products now coming from Colombia. Within the context of the birth of Simon Bolivar -- "The Liberator" -- to be celebrated Friday, the Venezuelan president insisted upon the need to strengthen the Venezuelan navy from every conceivable angle, in order to be prepared for any contingency.
