in any case dont you get the feeling that hugo is the one with the checkbook....

It certainly appears that way. I think we can say with some confidence at this point that Chavez has successfully destroyed the Venezuelan economy and future prospects for foreign investment. Not that he cares as long as he consolidates his power base..
