General Gustavo Gonzalez Lopez assumed command of the TO-5 Bolivar


Ciudad Bolivar, 28 Abr. ABN .- The general division (eg) Gustavo López González
assumed command of the Theater of Operations 5 Bolivarian National Armed Forces
(TO-5), unit activated by the president, Hugo Chávez Frías, to protect valuable
natural resources in the basin of the Caura and Caroni rivers in the face of
illegal mining.

The act of transfer of command took place at the Military Tribunal of Paseo
Libertador in this capital. It was headed by the commander of Military Region
Guayana, more general (eg) Félix Antonio Velasquez, who also performed to date
the command TO-5.

Major General Velasquez explained that delivery of this command, headquartered
at Fort Cayaurima Ciudad Bolívar, is a consequence of the recent decision of the
Head of State designated as commander of the National Bolivarian Militia.

As part of this event also gave the commands of the brigades 51 and 52 of the
Bolivarian National Army, based in Upata Tumeremo and to brigadier general
Urdaneta Manuel Perez and Narciso Yuliette respectively.

In his remarks to the troops present at the event, Velasquez called on the union
of the people of Bolivar state and the FANB.

'We need to integrate all efforts have a purpose and a common goal: the welfare
of society and the people who direct the destinies of the country, "he said.

Also emphasized the need to strengthen the sense of duty to inform people about
the protection of natural resources, sovereignty of the borders and protect the
existing economic and industrial resources.

He noted that the TO-5, which comprises units of the four components of FANB,
has developed a great work in the fight against removal of food and fuel, as
well as illegal mining in protected areas Upper Caura, and Paragua La Gran
Sabana, since its activation in 2006.
