The government will take "several" measures concerning the basic businesses
Economy
The decisions on the role of the Guayana's Venezuelan Corporation (CVG) and the future of aluminum businesses will be announced next Monday in Puerto Ordaz, the capital city of southern Bolívar state, in an address to the nation by Minister of Basic Industries and Mining (Mibam) Rodolfo Sanz.
The senior official acknowledged a "difficult situation" in the parent company and some subsidiaries; therefore, the government will take "several" measures concerning the basic businesses.
The minister will deliver his speech precisely when the workers at the heavy industry have voiced their concern about the CVG future, particularly aluminum businesses.
"We are to propose an overall plan where all of us need to make some sacrifice, that is, the State, businesspersons, providers and workers. Crises impose sacrifices for everyone and these companies are facing a crisis," said Sanz on leaving the National Assembly, after submitting the ministry's report for FY 2008.
However, "the State will try to recover aluminum prices in order to lessen the current impact on the output," said the minister.
As for the CVG, he said, "it is normal, thus far the payroll has been paid; nothing is outstanding. Of course, whenever companies face and ordeal and do not pay the Corporation, this makes an impact; this is the income source for the CVG, as it does not receive regular funding from the Executive Office, only extraordinary resources when there are large works, such as a dam that will be built on the Delta."
"If any companies that subsidize the CVG are in troubles, this adversely affects the corporation," said the president of the Guayana holding.
A new scheme
Sanz commented off-the-record that the "scheme under which the CVG was organized more than 40 years collapsed." To some extent, he considered that this is due to the "bonus culture" prevailing in some trade unions and some attorneys that fish and cash in on conflicts.
