Government looks for alternatives to make profitable aluminum production

03:16 p.m. Caracas. - Minister of Basic Industries and Minería, Rodolfo Sanz, said to the means that at the moment cost 3,500 dollars to produce one ton of aluminum, whose price in the market is located between 1,200 and 1,500 dollars.

“There is a natural deficit that we must cover it somehow” declared Sanz. “The next week we will give a press conference to announce some averages that allow to face” the conjuncture.

On the situation of the tercerizados workers of Sidor, it affirmed that she is continued looking for alternative, but the solution “is not only of the side of the State”, but it must arise from the dialogue between the involved actors.

“I guarantee like minister that we are going to present/display a plan where all the actors must contribute to a quota of sacrifice for the support and recovery of the companies of the State”, he affirmed.

Also, it indicated that próximimamente one will move to the locality of Santa Elena de Uairén to monitor the recovery of the diamond operation through the Diamovenca company, Diamonds of Venezuela.

Sidor operates normally

The Iron and steel of the Orinoco (Sidor) “is operating of normal form” and is placing its production in the international market, in spite of the fall in the prices of the steel, also informed the civil servant.

Sanz emphasized the efforts that comes applying the national government to improve and “to humanize the conditions of work of the employees” of Sidor from its nationalization in May of 2008.

The minister reiterated that they will invest 200 million dollars in the “technological adjustment of the facilities” like test of the will of the government to maintain the company active, taking into account the multiple manifestations registered in the last months on the part of the workers, according to reviewed AFP.
