More than 400 troops are defending the environment

The operating theater No. 5 has started throughout the state of
Bolívar is an expected action by those who believe in the future of
the institution, under the gaze of a sustainable socially just and
environmentally responsible.

This was stated by the director of the Center for Ecological Research
(CIEV) Alejandro Lanz, who noted that "Operation Tepuy, where more
than 400 of the National Army is a response in defense of national
sovereignty, the guard the environment and the halting of the defects
that become about illegal mining.

"People like butter, where the ravages of gold work has brought about
not only the devastation of nature, but contamination of rivers,
desertification of vast areas that are the heritage of the entire
planet and, like the Parque Nacional Canaima , which has not been
exempted from the intervention as mining, "said Lanz.

In this regard, he expressed the full support of the environmental
organization that aims to bring an end to environmental liabilities
that are occurring in the Caura, county and municipal Sucre Gran
Sabana, Sifontes, Roscio, El Callao, and Raul Piar Leoni.

"We understand that many Venezuelans have seen in illegal mining as a
source of income, most reality shows that they do not create quality
of life for workers who die, become ill and left with irreversible
disease by direct contact and continuous mercury and are destroyed by
the lack of decent and safe conditions of work ", reflects the green,
the only beneficiaries for whom the industry is a mafia-owned
machines that enrich the ore extracted illegally from Venezuela and
smuggled rioja out of the country to the United States North America,
Colombia and Guyana, to sell and accumulate great wealth, "bleeding
the country and our natural resources," he said.

Therefore, Alejandro Lanz said the union researchers, scientists,
academics, environmentalists and members of CIEV have been presented
in TO5 to provide advice on the recovery of those areas that may
still be reforested with environmental programs in the medium and
long term "since many areas affected by mining activities have left
an inch of topsoil, leaving after being washed, just sand, an inert
soil impossible to recover," he said.

It was important not to succumb to pressures and media
campaigns "since they are important centers of stopping illegal
mining, playing a major economic powers and intricate mafia has made
a fortune and bought conscience (...) From here we call the high
command military not to fail not only because environmentalists are
supporting these actions, too much of civil society support them, "he
said.

It also stressed that indigenous communities in the municipalities
Gran Sabana, Sifontes, Raúl Leoni and Sucre still expressing support
for the armed forces in eradicating illegal mining in their
territories, which for them is the loss of ecological balance
including and nature, which has been intact for centuries, and today
in a few months has been lost by the invasion of Colombians,
Brazilians, Dominicans, and Guyanese, resulting in displacement of
communities, prostitution, alcoholism, drugs and insecurity in areas
traditionally occupied by Indians.

"One of the most deplorable examples we see in the basin of the
Paragua where acculturation and displacement of indigenous
communities have led to the loss of many communities now almost
extinct (...) an example that can be repeated in the Caura Yekwana
with communities and Sanem despite struggling fiercely for not
allowing mining in the basin, are overwhelmed by the miners who enter
their territory armed with indolent gaze of the state and the
municipal and regional government, worried by the cost of most
voters, that the social cost and availability of the original
settlers and the Venezuelan laws that protect the Caura basin of 7
under legal figures, "said Lanz.

Finally, he reiterated support for the actions of the government TO5
and invited regional and municipal governments to join in the rescue
of order, law and sustainable development throughout the state.
