Venezuelan journalist killed

CARACAS, Venezuela, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- Authorities said they were looking for two men who gunned down Venezuelan journalist Orel Zambrano as they rode past him on a motorcycle in Valencia.

Zambrano, 62, was a vice president at the regional Venezuelan station Radio America, editor of the political weekly ABC and a columnist for the regional daily Notitarde. He also was a professor at the University of Carabobo and a lawyer.

Notitarde reported Zambrano was fatally wounded as he walked toward a movie rental store Friday afternoon. One of the two men on the motorcycle fired three shots at him from close range, the newspaper said.

The Latin American Herald Tribune reported Saturday the assassination occurred three days after the attempted slaying of Rafael Finol, a reporter for the daily El Regional in Portuguesa state. Finol was grazed by a bullet, RSF said.

No arrests had been made in either case.
