The Mexican Cemex, the third cementera major of the world, presented/displayed a demand of international arbitration before the World Bank against Venezuela by the expropriation of its assets in that country, said a source of the company.
“I can confirm that Cemex presented/displayed the demand of arbitration. What follows is to designate representing and to the referee”, said the source that requested the anonymity, without giving more details.
The demand was presented/displayed before the Center the International of Adjustment of Differences regarding Investments (Ciadi), employee of the World Bank, the 30 of October.
Cemex had said in August that the expropriation was a violation to the Constitution, the principles of the Right International and treaties for the mutual cover of investments, although soon resumed negotiations with the Government of Chávez to try to decide the payment an indemnification.
The cementera, that operates in more than 50 countries, had demanded 1.300 million dollars like compensation by its assets, a sum considered very high by the Venezuelan Government, who would have offered him half of that amount. Agencies
