Argentine justice officials searched the premises of state-run oil company Petróleos de Venezuela (Pdvsa) in Buenos Aires trying to find evidence in the context of the investigation of the so-called "suitcase scandal", reported on Friday the Argentinean newspaper La Nación.
The search, carried out on Tuesday, aimed to find out which official of the Venezuelan oil company was using a mobile phone to which Venezuelan-US businessman Guido Antonini Wilson, accused in Argentina of trying to smuggle a suitcase filled with USD 800.000 into the country on August 4, 2007, made a phone call, EFE reported.
According to the investigation conducted by Judge Daniel Petrone, Antonini had contacts with a Pdvsa official during his last visit to Buenos Aires, which coincided with an official visit of Venezuela's President Hugo Chávez.
According to La Nación, Petrone intends to find out the details of the call that Antonini made to a cell phone allegedly owned by Jorge Pérez Mancebo, then Pdvsa director in Argentina.
