Russian mining investments in January-July reach US$170mn - Peru

Russian President Dimitri Medvedev wants to diversify economic relations with Peru in the mining sector and others such as energy, taking into account that Russian investments reached US$170mn in the first seven months of 2008, compared to US$210mn in all of 2007 and US$131mn in 2006, state news agency Andina reported.

Medvedev visited Peru for the APEC summit and has been in talks with President Alan García to strengthen cooperation agreements between both countries in sectors such as mining, science, technology and economy.

The Russian president's visit to Peru coincided with a recent trip by a delegation of Japanese businessmen to seek new investment opportunities in zinc, copper and natural gas, according to another report by Andina.
