Indians of Mexico mobilized against transnational mining
Chiapas, Mexico, Oct 18. ABN - Thousands of peasants and indigenous state of Chiapas in southeastern Mexico, on Saturday began a march to express their rejection by the arrival of mining companies from Canada and the United States to the region they inhabit.
The communities are grouped in the Organization Regional Front (OFR) required to Mexican President Felipe Calderón, and the governor of Chiapas, Juan Sabines, "the immediate cancellation of permits and concessions they have provided to transnational mining companies."

authorities, 'crumbs offered in exchange for our rich minerals,
promising schools, roads and clinics whose construction is the
responsibility of the government', said in a statement to the
Indians.
"This is in addition to the harassment and even death threats made by entrepreneurs miners against farmers who refuse to allow the mining plunder and pollution of their communities," added since the OFR.
The Indians from the highlands of Chiapas warned that any price to defend their territories and communities against attempts to cross the start with the collection in municipalities with higher rates of poverty in the mountainous region of this state bordering Guatemala.
Despite the protests of citizens, to the Mexican coast these
companies operate magnetite and titanium, among other minerals.
