Ecuador, Venezuela Talk Integration
Caracas, Aug 29 (Prensa Latina) Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa said he seeks to expand economic and political links between Caracas and Quito, as well as integrationist projects in the region, when visiting Venezuela Friday.
According to Ecuadorian ambassador to this capital Rene Vargas, the Ecuadorian statesman's agenda includes visiting the Ayacucho field, in the Orinoco Oil Belt, and the SIDOR, Orinoco Iron and Steel company, recently nationalized by the Venezuelan government.
Correa did not broadcast from this country his weekly radio program as announced, Vargas said, because he is planning to attend an act in Guayaquil, with a view to the September referendum to approve the Constitution.
The diplomat termed Correa and his Venezuelan counterpart Hugo Chavez dreamers of Latin American integration.
Both presidents support integration, with Correa being a vocal proponent and Chavez the leader, the official told Venezolana de Television.
Correa and Chavez have different personalities, but both believe in the South American countries' unity.
The Ecuadorian statesman will travel accompanied by Foreign Minister Maria Isabel Salvador, Oil and Mining Minister Galo Chiliboga, and several businesspeople.
