Caracas, 19 (ANSA) - The government of Venezuela took control of the four floors of the Mexican Cemex subsidiary in the country at midnight on Monday, after expiry of the deadline for negotiations, running well expropriation under the nationalization decreed last June 19.
The Minister of Energy and Petroleum Rafael Ramirez, attended the making of the Cemex plant in Anzoategui state, east of the country, where workers of the company held so far and participated in a vigil that was repeated in other venues of Cement in Bolivar state, Lara and Zulia. The minister reiterated that the expropriation was practiced by not having reached a settlement on the value of assets, as it happened during the day yesterday with the other two cement companies nationalized, France's Lafarge and Switzerland's Holcim and assured the operation of plants .
"We are assuming the same production company employees, supervisors and the same tables", which ensures domestic production, he said.
Ramirez explained that will be doing an audit to determine the "fair price" to pay for the company that he said holds significant "environmental liabilities and tax" by the alleged lack of investment and a "very backward technology."
