Maracay .- Inhabitants of Suburbia La Punta and Mata Redonda, affected by the Valencia lake south of Maracay, on Monday denounced delays in the payment of monetary compensation for their homes. The injured reminded that there is a judgement by the highest court ordering the immediate eviction of two sectors as if it were an emergency.
The result of that action constitutional complaint, filed in 1999 by a group of victims against the Ministry of Environment, was issued and later ratified by the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court (TSJ) on August 13, 2007. The judgement ruled the departure of all residents of the area after monetary compensation from their homes, because they were, reportedly backed by the National Directorate of Civil Protection, at high risk.
So far, however, that judgement has not been fulfilled and over one thousand families are still living in the vulnerable area near the levee that holds the passage of the basin to residential areas. Maritza Gonzalez, a resident of Mata Redonda, expressed concern at the situation they face and noted that the Ministry of Environment, who lost his lawsuit, the agency was commissioned by the Supreme Court for the surrender of the benefit. He assured that the holder of that office, Yubirí Ortega, is trying to "prolong the process without sufficient cause."
"I do not want to think that this is a rabieta here because of the minister, both as Mata Redonda in La Punta, is at risk not only the heritage of over one thousand families but their lives," said Gonzalez, who stressed that in a Ortega document recently issued by the highest judicial authority requests that "so far rejected the valuations submitted by a private company contracted by the direction of Civil Protection and is incorporated to carry out this activity the Ministry for Housing."
