As of the last data I saw there were around 7 million shares short. That is a very small % of float and the days to cover is small. My personal threshold to even consider a short squeeze candiate is 5%.
I don't think a short squeeze will result in much of a pop and will be likely offset by painfilled longs who just want out without employing any long term vision.
What WILL move the stuck is an influx of big money. There is a good amount of institutional money in KRY, but we must remember that in the eyes of MOST big players, KRY is a speculative stock and thus not worthy of attention without a permit. These are mostly conservative firms that have to answer to their customers so if they engage in speculative plays it is limited. Without a permit, to these guys, the size of the gold deposit means nothing. The price of gold means nothing. Fundamentals mean nothing. The same goes for many specualtive "players" because they are looking for just a catalyst that will pop the PPS and then they are gone.....the permit.
Once KRY has a permit, then it wil be looked at through a completely different filter. Gold deposits, gold price, fundamentals will be HUGELY important. This pool of money is far larger than the speculators and even if every person speculating now left on the permit the money that will be looking at geting in will be greater. With a permit, KRY becomes a real gold company. The folks that buy in post permit will be looking at all of the above PLUS they will be remembering all the things said by GG and others that there are not enough gold deposits to meet demand. Companies like this will now be looking at KRY as a potential takeover target when they never would have considered it pre-permit.
On the down side, there will be more attention paid to mining laws and political risk, but that will create trading opportunities.
The moral of the story is that the permit is the BEGINNING of the KRY story, not the end. Exiting fully on the permit (which used to be my plan) would really be more foolish than being a buy and hold only long through all the turmoil to date.
