"Fraudulent act" suspected in taxation appeal by Crystallex associate company

VHeadline.com Reporters: In a report claiming Venezuelan IRS/Seniat sources, Correo del Coroni columnist Alberto Rodriguez says that a "famous transnational mining company has debts with the National Treasury which between penalties and overdue payments comes to approximately 1.5 billion bolivares.

With the passage of time and default interest applied ... the total now reaches an amount of 7 billion bolivares imposed against the (unidentified) company which has just launched an appeal before the Taxation Appeals Tribunal in Ciudad Bolivar (the regional capital of southeastern Venezuela).

Nevertheless, to the surprise of everyone, the appeal jumped ahead of a many other (not necessarily related) cases lodged earlier with the Tribunal to a determination in favor of the appeal by the transnational mining company, neglecting evidence brought by the official institution (IRS/Seniat).

According to a Supreme Tribunal of Justice (TSJ) listing of official documents received on October 15, 2007 two bundles of 21 and 138 pages respectively were filed at the TSJ by Crystallex International legal assistant, Lawyer Hildemaro Gonzalez Manzur.

While it is NOT known if these bundles are associated with the case referred to by Correo del Coroni columnist Alberto Rodriguez, VHeadline.com has sought clarifications directly with Crystallex' Toronto HQ.

We have also sent a query to the law office in Caracas which represents Crystallex International, which has an exclusive mine operating contract at Las Cristinas, and will update this page at the earliest possible opportunity!
