I guess my point is that the NDP are not going to quash all mining in BC and the more envionmentally or Aboriginally challenged projects will feel the pain much sooner than SC. The taxation issue is quite another issue and, gulp, the NPD are not above milking any industry to death with taxes.

I saw the NPD milk the forest industry nearly to death. $18 per cubic meter super stumpage charged on most wood harvested in BC - that is $18 on top of the regular stumpage. (stumpage ranges from 25cents for Pine Beetle damaged wood up to say $35/m3 for average saw logs in the interior - $18 was quite a premium). The NDP used it to fuel the $500M++ Forest Renewal account and put unemployed loggers to work in the woods pruning and spacing regenerating stands - just exactly what a plump, middle aged forest worker used to operating machinery is NOT cut out for. It was a disaster in my opinion for the workers, the industry, the forest and the province.

I'm with you Webs, dont underestimate the NDP's ability to ef things up. God forbid if they get their hands on a money printer.
