Message: Land Act changes

Taltan are pro-mining and business focused group! They want SC in production for their own prosperity!

While this is a true statement and CUU has, by all indications, cultivated a positive working relationship with the Tahltan First Nation, do not forget that the Red Chris copper and gold mine and the Brucejack gold mine are already in production. In addition, I don't know how many significant deposits exist, but it's a high number. There are plenty of proposed mines on that resource-rich land.

Will all of them succeed in reaching the mining stage? Surely not. Some won't prove economic enough. But there's also a risk of the Tahltan people hitting maximum capacity and realizing diminishing returns if too many mines go into production simultaenously. If everyone who wants to work already has a job at a mine and all of the First Nation's companies that can provide service and supplies contracts are at their ceiling, why keep approving more mines?

The other related risk is environmental. If one of those operating mines has a serious incident, that could quickly turn the public sentiment against allowing more mines to open.

So these are the sorts of complications that can develop due to Teck/Newmont not prioritizing Galore and Schaft Creek over the past decade, not to mention the Land Act changes that patter just raised.

All this time frittered away could carry some serious consequences.
