It serves the interest of the ESG crowd. They don't want to invest in dirty coal even though this is met coal used to make steel, not the filthy dirty thermal coal burned for power generation. So the ESGer's can invest in Teck Metals Co and feel better. A higher P/E ratio is also expected with a pure metals play.

After the Glencore takeover offer, Teck changed the revenue transfer forom coal to metals to 3 years. Once that is over, I would expect Teck would sell Elk Valley Resources.
