I don't think guys like him generally make mistakes like that.

But guys like him DO make mistakes like that. Even better guys than him (Warren Buffett) have admitted to making costly investment mistakes. Guys like Ernesto are really just guys like us, but with much deeper pockets and insider knowledge. And neither deep pockets nor insider knowledge can insulate one from investment losses when things don't turn out as planned. Wealthy people like Ernesto just get bigger write-downs. Ernesto is diversified. He will win some, and he will lose some, just like the rest of us. It's a false perception to believe that because a billionaire majority share holder hasn't sold that somehow means it wasn't a mistake. Put it this way, if you had the opportunity to travel back into time to where you first learned about Copper Fox, would you still have invested knowing what you know now? If the answer is no, then you've essentially admitted to yourself, whether you like it or not, that you've made a mistake. The same scenario applies to Ernesto.
