Sorry to hear about your friends. I don't wish job loss on anyone, but I don't think the fact that industry as a whole is getting knocked around is bad at all.
People in all other walks of life end up having more money in their pocket when they're not being fleeced at the pumps. Other industries run cheaper too, and their businesses and workers thrives. Oil and gas is like a rate limiting factor, something which I'd prefer to be nationalized, but that's a whole other topic. Gas is as essential as electricity, and when the prices are too high for too long, the general public suffers, so I guess it depends which side of the fence you're on.
In any case, I wish no ill will to those who make their living working in the industry, but the industry as a whole needs a correction that's been a long time coming.
The relationship between oil and gas and the economy is well known. As oil gets cheaper, many other people enjoy a better quality of life too. If copper demand goes up, and this project becomes a mine, many people on this board will recoup a small fortune that, at this point they've lost on paper, and they'll be among that group made better by a falling oil market. For my own sake, and the others on this board, I won't be cheering for the oil industy.
