I think the positive note to glean from this story is that Teck backed "in" not out like Rio Tinto did with Pebble Mine.

Actually Teck used to own the Pebble property through their merger with Cominco. They sold it to Northern Dynasty because of the environmental problems. They backed out of Pebble a while ago, around 2001, I think.

That's an awful lot of copper that won't be coming to the market now. At least I hope that means the end of it. Rio Tinto gave their shares to two charities who might be keener on having it go ahead than the shares become worthless. If I were them I'd start selling those off right away.
