here is a article im posting. For the life of me I can not understand why China would ban ships that are too large?

I would think that China.....the huge copper consumer or even metal consumer for that matter, would not accomidate larger ships to their ports to get the metals?

I mean with this news, sure does put a damper in Vales future. OR is china just wanting to deal with certain companies like Teck.

I guess what im saying is,,,,what does this board think....why would China not build bigger ports?

Maybe its just a matter of time that China makes their ports bigger but I would have thought that this is not new news.....China built the ships???

China extends ban on Vale's giant ore carriers

Rio de Janeiro-based Vale first decided on the VLOC (very large ore carrier) strategy to help it compete with BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto and Fortescue Metals.

Although its Valemax fleet is calling on ports in Japan, South Korea, Italy and elsewhere, Vale has been forced to use transit centres in Africa and a distribution facility in the Philippines to bring ore to its customers in China because of the ban. The Brazilian giant is also building a transshipment facility in Malaysia to service the region.

Currently 80% of the world's iron ore is borne by much smaller Capesize vessels, but Valemaxes may still play a bigger part in the trade, reports The Maritime Executive:
