Message: Teck interested in other copper plays?

There are Pros & Cons with this news.

Pros:

Teck wants much more Copper in their portfolio.

If China loses the bid = greater demand to bid for more Copper projects (Partner with Teck at SC) Both Chinalco and Minmetals would be searching for big projects.

Teck is already working closely with Mining & Financial partners to acquire huge Copper projects.

Cons:

If Teck wins the bid = less cash available to buyout CUU.

Teck wins the bid = Glencore is pouring in huge amounts of CapEx into the project already, thus Teck is purchasing a project that is moving much closer to production. If Teck purchases this project then they could be happy with their Copper production and not want to buy more immediately. Especially if they are planning on combining Galore and Schaft.
