Stifel Nicolaus has a reputation for being on the leading edge of stock pickers.....if youll notice when they bought, CUU was clearly in overbought territory and rising on speculative value alone.
Personally I think Stifel took full advantage of this buying at the highs and made all their money shorting it when the stock came off its over bought conditions. Its advantageous to run the stock up a bit (hence their buying pressure towards the top) if your plan is to short the entire position when youre covered. Look at what happened with Volkswagen (VKY I believe a few years ago).
Im not so sure Stifel would show up as holding the stock anymore but I could be wrong...my speculation is they made their money shorting it and moved on to the next pick long ago.
