I actually would argue that this length of discussion time points to a JV/earn-back scenario more so than a buyout. I would think that a buyout discussion only needs to concentrate on what assets at what price. A JV/earn-back is much more complicated with partners and joint operating terms, responsibilities, financing, etc etc while making this all fit all of the mysterious underlying agreements.
