It's not so much about the financial value of the shares. Do not forget that the Liard shares are the voting shares = control.

Even with a back-in, that control is kept (by CUU) until the elected interest is completely earned by Teck.

Xtrata owns 10.72% and apparently doesn't want to sell them to either...
