Ah... Rivers without borders. Look at where they are based: USA. The get a lot of credit for 'raising environmental issues' but they focus on projects in Canada where they don't affect USA jobs. .
The report is dated "Winter 2012" but a lot of the info is already obsolete.
I believe ES said during the Dec 24th conference call that the waste piles along Schaft Creek would need to be modified or moved altogether. - scratch one off the RWOB list
They raise the issue with acid generating rock. Well, the acid generating rock will be either interned under water where it won't oxidize and produce acid (i.e within the Skeeter TSF) OR... that acid waste will be stored back in the finished pit where it would have to climb to get out. The effluent from the TSF would have to meet DFO or BC Min of Environment standards for water quality. So no deleterious substances should enter Skeeter Creek which empties into Schaft, which empties into Mess Creek. Mess Creek is where the fish are. - scratch one more off the RWOB list
They raise the issue of the fish in Mess Creek and the road and powerline. If the road is built and maintained properly, there should be no effect on fish or fish habitat. Powerlines don't affect fish either. - Scratch one (or is that two lol!) more off the RWOB list.
They raise issues with stone sheep and a bunch of other wildlife. I don't recall seeing them in the CUU enviro baseline studies. I think they are mostly within the Stikine canyon. - scrach one more off the list.
In short, these guys don't have much of a case.
