The Xstrata connection to Schaft Creek thru the Laird shares is there. But I think that if Xstrata and Glencore do merge, the new entity will be focused inward for a while as it gets used to its new body.
What I like about this M & A activity is that it is signalling that the mining industry is looking ahead. The idea that the new Glencore-Xstrata entity (if it goes thru) would then potentially turn its gaze at Anglo American supports thinking about the other majour miners out there needing to look for their own M & A ventures. Grow bigger or be eaten.
The mining environment is getting exciting with this M & A talk and rising metal prices. A great environment for putting out a BFS and starting the 120 day clock.
