B.C Hydro said Monday that it does not require the approval of dissident first nations to begin construction of its 344-kilometre Northwestern Transmission Line.

Hydro has signed impact benefit agreements with five of the nine first nations whose traditional territories lie within the route of the proposed $404 million line. Two of the remaining four whose claimed territories cover more than a third of the line, have formed a coalition to pressure the Crown corporation to address local community concerns.
