I used to travel extensively within Quebec on business and had many friends from the Montreal area and also farther northeast around Sorel and Quebec. My friends and associates were of both French and English derivation.

Without exception, it was my observation that the people of English derivation were opposed to separatism. While those of French derivation, were split on the concept of the Parti Quebecois agenda of separation. Additonally, as I moved farther away from Montreal, the enthusiasm for the Parti Quebecois separatist approach strengthened.
