This is something that Connacher should probably be more worried about:

This sheet is hanging from the lobby in the student centre of the University that I work at. It's a student protest against oilsands development.

Now I'm not going to get into any debate about the merits of this sort of a protest, and frankly, I think it's ridiculous because they don't appear to know exactly what they're protesting against.

However, this leads to a very good point. There are different types of oilsands development. Along the spectrum, Connacher is on the more "environmentally friendly" side of the fence, as opposed to open pit mines, because of the less obvious surface disruption.

It seems to me that Connacher might want to think a bit about promoting their image more. Maybe protests like this will mean absolutely nothing to the company in the future. However, there is also a chance that if people feel this way in one area, they also feel this way in other parts of Canada. And the more people that oppose the oilsands developments, the more difficult it will be for Connacher (and other companies) to operate in a non-restrictive political environment.
