I believe they can convert at any time. Converting early would cause a loss of interest income. The only thing for them to watch for is that if it hits a certain SP for a certain length of time then CLL can buy them out. I don't know those numbers off the top of my head. Before those numbers are hit, they will convert, until then they will take the interest income.
