Involvement in the civil debate/discussion of issues is one of the best learning opportunities a person can have.  Discussion forums such as this one are great if everyone follows general decorum for civil discussion.  The following leadership principles, though very simple, if followed are very effective, not only within discussion forums, but also in your day to day activities.

Focus on the situation, issue or behavior and not on the person.

Maintain the self-confidence and self-esteem of others.

Maintain constructive relationships.

Take initiative to make things better.
