CMA CGM is testing new “ECO Containers”
True to its innovative, eco-conscious approach, CMA CGM, after having been the first carrier to launch bamboo floored containers in 2005, is testing on its Asia-Europe services new Eco-containers manufactured with composite flooring, free of any wood components, the “EKO-FLOR”.
Developed by the Canadian Company, CONFORCE International in partnership with BAYER, EKO-FLOR is an innovative, uniquely formulated advanced composite transportation flooring system that exceeds the performances of hardwood floors.
EKO-FLOR containers offer significant advantages:
- Lighter weight floor reducing energy used in transportation,
- Complete resistance to all type of products (water, oil, odours, microbes, etc.),
- Unequalled sanitized environment uniquely suited for food-grade containers
- Less energy required for production,
- Fewer overall repairs thus increased container service life,
- Re-usable and recyclable floor.
Further more, these EKO-FLOR containers are manufactured with highly resistant high tensile steel designed and produced by container manufacturer, CIMC. The use of such light steel combined with EKO-FLOR comes to a 40’HC being 500 Kg lighter than a similar regular 40’HC, thus further reducing energy spent during transportation.
Should the on-going tests prove successful, CMA CGM will invest in wood-free EKO-FLOR containers, reducing the needless elimination of Earth depleting supply of trees and rainforest.
CMA CGM operates today a 130 000 eco-container fleet including bamboo floored containers, light steel containers and low consumption Reefer containers.
