Message: Penasquito and the NW-SE structure

Even though the Penasquito deposit is removed slighly to the east of this structure, it is likely this crustal suture still played a role in the formation of Penasquito.

The NW-SE structure is a MAJOR tectonic feature.  It is a terrane bounday which implies it extends to the roots of the crust.  In a feature like this there is rarely a discrete line or single break that defines the fault, it more than likely it is a wide fault zone with many fractures and offshoots.  Magmas that drove the Penasquito hydrothermal system could easily have risen along this zone of weakness (NW-SE structure) and sent diatremes (brecciating the rocks) into adjacent rocks from considerable depth.Think of the letter y... where the long stem of the letter represents the main stem of the fault reaching underground to the roots of the crust and the shorter line in the letter y represents fractures related to this main fault, think of a backyards y and one can see a possible connection.  In this senario Penasquito could very well be related to the poximal terrane boundary.  A deposit does not need to sit exactly on a large structure but with Penasquito's location relatively close to this MAJOR feature it is reasonable to infer a connection.

Again, this is speculation and my evaluation is that it is easier to infer a relationship between Penasquito and this NW-SE structure than to completely rule it out.
