I agree that the article did not tell the whole story! As BB Goldseeker stated, Recaf is a NOVEL tumor marker. One must look at the definitions of these words though to derive the true meaning of Novel Tumor Marker.

1 : new and not resembling something formerly known or used.

A tumor or tumour is the name for a swelling or lesion formed by an abnormal growth of cells (termed neoplastic). Tumor is not synonymous with cancer. A tumor can be benign, pre-malignant or malignant, whereas cancer is by definition malignant.

This Tumor (IMO) can be two cells or a mass of cells. I also believe that the article posted is out of date in comparison to RECAF.

Recaf is more Specific and Sensitive than the other markers in the article.
