Message: June 7: Delivering Across the Blood Brain Barrier - Crossing the Final Frontier

On June 7th from 3:30 PM–4:30 PM, there is a sub-session entitled "Delivering Across the Blood Brain Barrier - Crossing the Final Frontier" as part of the larger session "Delivery: The Next Frontier of Biotherapeutics" during the June 6-9 Bio2016 International Convention in San Francisco. Wilfred Jefferies from BiOasisi is on the schedule, though no talk title yet.

Description

The blood brain barrier (BBB) is a highly regulated and efficient barrier that protects the brain and critical parts of the central nervous system (CNS). Unfortunately, the transport of drugs to the brain is hampered by this almost impenetrable, highly selective barrier. This problem is exacerbated for biotherapeutics, which are often orders of magnitude larger than small molecule drugs and more sensitive to environmental effects. Treatment of over 1000 different CNS disorders is currently hampered by the inability to traverse the BBB. However, thanks to some very innovative approaches to address this issue, significant progress has been made in recent years, and will be the focus of this session.
