The days of the 15-minute delay for stock quotes appear to be numbered. Last week Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) announced that Yahoo Finance would provide real-time stock quotes courtesy of the BATS ECN. Today NASDAQ has announced that Google (NSDQ: GOOG), CNBC.com and the WSJ Digital Network will offer free RTQs from its exchange. The new service called NASDAQ Last Sale is being delivered in conjunction with Xignite, a provider of financial applications. Here’s Google’s current share price from Google Finance.
In 2006, a group of internet companies lobbied the SEC to protest a real-time quote fee hike from the major exchanges. While the issue isn’t completely resolved, it looks like it’s just a matter of time before those data are available from all the exchanges across all the internet. Release.
