China is throwing it's two trillion dollars plus all over the place, while it still retains some modicum of value.
Witness: Last Sept. China lent the Democratic Republic of Congo $5 billion to modernize its infrastructure. The accord would see Chinese companies acquiring copper, cobalt, nickel & gold concessions. (Reuters Last Sept.)
Zimbabwe: China is its most important investor. Last month the Chinese ambassador announced that a Chinese co. was exploring the investment of $500 million in electricity generation. This on the heels of the two states expanding bilateral trade & investments. Over the past 2 years China has thrown a $1.6 billion lifeline for access to mining deals including the worlds 2nd largest deposit of platinum as well as chrome, coal, nickel, diamonds & gold.(Korea Times July 9/08).
Angola: China's Vice Premier Zeng Peiyang signed a total of 9 cooperation agreements with Angola. Agreements include developement of Angolas oil & gas riches & also for cooperation in the mineral resources sector. (Afrol News 20 July 08)
Sudan: China invests heavily in Sudan's oil industry. Sudan is China's largest overseas oil project, according to a former Sudanese government official. Chinese made tanks, fighter planes, bombers, helicopters & rpg's have intensified the 2 decade old North-South civil war. China is in a lucrative partership, delivering $ billions in investment, oil revenue & weapons. (Old Washington Post Art.).
Ecuador: Ecuador looks to Iran $ China in new oil refinery. China and Iran are interested in investing in a $6 billion refinery Ecuador is building with Venezuelan assistance. President Correa said that Iran could be involved & shrugged of any concern that might cause. " Iran has done nothing to us," Correa said. (Teheran Times, July 21/08)
I realize that this may be considered off topic, but it gives some small idea of Chinas' reach and its' potential for investment in Ecuadorian mineral resources. It also gives us a good idea where all the money from that Wall-Mart crap is going.
