I have always wondered why Ecuador is concerned about the size of the concession besides the fact that they were not getting paid on a lot of them. To me they are two different items...1) not getting paid and 2) size of the concession ??
If they were not getting paid then they did the right thing by taking them back...no question there. But limiting the size of the concession makes no sense to me !!
Lets look at Canplats concession in Mexico "Camino Rojo"....it is 340,000 hectares or 1300 square Kilometers !!!! That is three times the size of all of ARU's Ecuadorian concessions. Granted Mexico has many more hectares than Ecuador but the mineral concession size should not be decided on that alone..?? I'm sure there are many other examples but I think you get the point.
Anyone have any ideas as we watch the paint dry ??
