This is her response to a few questions on the mining laws and if they had any environmental concerns. I sent her the Salazar, Ecometals and Atlas press releases and asked her a couple follow-up questions. I'll post them if she replies.
Who are the other companies that have suspended operations? So far Cornerstone is the only one I have heard of but I’ve been travelling all week so may be out of the loop. It is difficult to say when the law will be ready. Government has said anything from end of this month to within 90 days (discrepancies may have to do with having the draft ready vs. passed, different time). Government have missed a lot of their other deadlines. Environmental concerns: so far there haven’t been any. One of the weird things in the mandate is that concessions in watersheds can be cancelled. If that was actually applied in Ecuador there would be no mining concessions. So I can’t give you a definite answer. So far we haven’t heard of any problem with our concessions.
