Your heart is certainly in the right place but I think this is dangerous to do. In a politically charged situation outsiders are often seen a provocateurs no matter how good the intention. In Latin America it is doubly so. You end up being used by one side or the other and you can't win.
My advice if you want to donate is to send money to the local churches in the area and request that the money be targeted as help for needy families. The churches tend to be the centre of the social support network in most of these rural communities and know who needs help and how to get it to them.
Safe can probably get a list of churches and addresses from Marla and we can send money (US$ money orders/Bank Drafts) to them. They may also know a more effective way of getting the money to them then by mail.
