"What is with these guys, hey I got an idea, lets run all foreign business out of our country."
Others can correct me if they think I am wrong here but I think what we have here is a power struggle within the government between the Correa forces (Responsible Mining) and the Acosta forces (No Mining). I also now think that the three concession rule was designed to discourage as much mining as possible. The Acosta side knows the damage they are doing. That was there intent. The Correa side is hopping for a political backlash to change public opinion. We are the pawns that will have to watch this play out.
probably not a bad idea to start talking to our government and ask them to ready some retaliatory measures. People should start demanding that this be looked at but I doubt most Canadians will care as they enjoy being steamrolled over as a national past time.
I think it is better to use official channels to put pressure on them behind the scenes. Trade sanctions don't work. They will just retaliate in kind. The last thing we want is to give them an excuse to nationalize the mining business.
