I'm not sure why so many were concerned about Patrick making reference to mining laws not being in play until next year...
It would seem obvious that the law won't make the books til next year (well, obvious to anyone who takes an interest in Ecuador politics). The May '08 deadline is for the draft constitution which then needs to be voted into power late this year.
Once that is done, all the signing and sealing takes a while (after all, this is a full constitution). This does not mean, however, that mining development will be frozen til then. Once the rules are set, and we have our agreement in place, ARU and others will be able to move forward...the "2009 law" will be the confirmation procedure, nothing more.
Let's hope that with all this drilling we get an upgraded resource, (more ounces).
