What's important to realize here is that, Ecuador uses the US dollar as it's currency and so naturally, China will be looking to get rid of all those worthless US dollars, which they are being barred from doing in the United States, by buying stuff in Ecuador....

Also, Correa knows that the 21st century belongs to China...so it's good business to get chummy with the chinese...
