I think solar needs to be an important piece of the puzzle as well, though I don't think it is as vital in Canada as other areas. Here on the prairies, my biggest power bills come in winter to heat the ole shack. Yet the big overloads on the power grid are during the hot days when the A/C in every house, store and garage in N. America is going full bore to keep us comfortable. The great thing about solar is it's greatest output is when demand is highest. As I see it, power generation of the future will not be from one source, but many, and not just owned by utilities, but by individuals, buisnesses and perhaps local governments. We need to get all we can from wind and solar, with hydro and nuclear providing constant flow to even things out.
