Sometimes getting acquired doesn't benefit the existing shareholders as much as production. I guess it all depends on the growth potential of the company that takes over. Some of them are just bloated giants that gobble up resources. Others have what it takes for good synergy. In the latter case, the shareholder receives value (and potential). In the former, you just get shares.
