FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - The Kentucky Senate passed legislation Tuesday that would require coal mines to have their global positioning coordinates listed so medical helicopters can find them more quickly during emergencies.

State Sen. Ray Jones, a Pikeville Democrat, sponsored the legislation. It would also require local Kentucky State Police posts and 911 call centers that serve areas with coal mines to keep the GPS coordinates handy.

The measure passed by a 38-0 vote on Tuesday. It heads to the House for consideration.

A similar proposal stalled in the House last year after winning Senate approval.

The legislation is Senate Bill 52.
