Active Control sells ActiveMine(TM) system to Wyoming open pit coal mine
ACT teams up with MeshDynamics to extend ActiveMine to surface mining

TORONTO, Jan. 5 /CNW/ - Active Control Technology Inc. (TSX-V:ACT) and
MeshDynamics Inc. today announced the sale of an ActiveMine system to a
Wyoming open pit coal mine - the companies' first sale to a surface mining
customer in the US. This represents a new and significant incremental market
for ActiveMine, the premier wireless communications and locating system for
mines, where MSHA "intrinsically safe" approval is not required.
The Wyoming mine selected ActiveMine to replace its current wireless
communications network because it can provide reliable, high-quality service
along the entire span of a five mile, above-ground conveyor belt system. The
mine is approximately 18 miles long. The customer has requested that its name
and the value of the transaction not be disclosed.
ActiveMine enables two-way voice and data communications, as well as the
continuous monitoring of mine production, personnel and equipment. Active
Control and MeshDynamics initially joined forces to develop the system as a
safety net for underground coal mining. The two companies have subsequently
advanced ActiveMine as a powerful mine productivity tool for both underground
and surface mining environments. The system is now being marketed for use in
coal and hard rock mines as far away as China.
The Active Control-MeshDynamics partnership was recognized in November
2008 when the companies were named joint winners of the 2008 cross-border
business achievement award by the Canadian American Business Council (CABC).
ACT is based in Canada and MeshDynamics is based in the US.
